Nel Aerts' practice is a crossing between painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, performance and film. Her distinct figurative work is populated by often tragicomic figures, which she portrays in simple lines and large areas of color. These characters that recur in the most diverse media function as a kind of masks that the artist consciously uses to just show or reveal her own person.
