Johan Clarysse's paintings (born 1957 in Kortrijk, lives and works in Bruges) are permeated with double meanings, suggestions, references. They want to be mysterious in a clear way. He refers to the world of film and media and uses techniques from advertising, extracts from song lyrics and philosophical questions or quotes. He regularly juxtaposes image and language as equal elements, but the status of both is uncertain.
