Yaque José - Circon I
2015 - Acrylic, enamel on canvas and nylon - 100 x 100 cm
José Yaque belongs to the youngest generation of Cuban artists. His pictorial technique results in highly material and vibrant landscape compositions where materials are applied by hand and encrusted directly onto the canvas. Further transformation occurs when the artist wraps the paintings in a plastic film, removes it when the magna is dry resulting in an eroded looking painting.
Jose Yaque current solo show “Tierra Madre (2017) is on view at the David Gill Gallery http://www.davidgillgallery.com/ in London in collaboration with Galleria Continua who represents the artist. In 2016, he participated in CAB Creation Residency in Brussels, and took part in “Transhumance, (Beyond Cuban Horizons”. Yaque’s work is exhibited internationally since 2010 in venues such as: 1st Biennal de Arte Contemporáneo de Portugal, Lisbon; (2015) 12th Bienal of Havana, Cuba ; Wasps Artists’ Studio in Glasgow and the International Festival of Visual Art, Glascow, UK. Solo shows include: 2013, Millenium Bridge, Servando Galería de Arte, Havana; 2012,“Wisla, Zacheta, Galería Nacional de Arte, Warsaw, Poland. Group exhibitions include : 2013, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, La Habana, Cuba; Emerson College, Forest Row, UK; Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam, Havana.
